As for the x86 (32-bit) volume license version of Windows XP Professional, it has no online activation, but when you go to retrieve updates, you have to go through WGA validation. Actually, there is no WGA validation for Retail, OEM, and Volume builds of the before mentioned operating systems. For the x86_64 (64-bit) version of Windows XP Professional, I would go with the volume license version if I were you as the keys are plentiful on the internet and there is no online activation that you have to go through and there is no WGA validation or notification.
